News on St. Philip's Episcopal Church, BelmontTuesday, June 11, 2019The Allegany Board of Legislators and the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester are pleased to announce an agreement in principal for the sale/transfer of several Diocesan properties in Belmont to Allegany County Government. The properties include the Parish Hall, Murray House, and the Episcopal Church along with the adjoining parking lot. The Diocese and representatives from Allegany County Government jointly negotiated the transaction for these particular properties in the hopes of repurposing the facilities for continued and evolving community needs. Family Promise CelebrationWednesday, June 5, 2019St. John's Episcopal Church in Canandaigua celebrated the opening of the former Rectory as the new home for Family Promise Day Center. The Very Rev. David Hefling and his team have spent the past 2 years working very hard to get this much-needed program underway. The day was highlighted with a blessing by Bishop Prince G. Singh. It’s estimated that there are up to 60 families that are homeless in Ontario County. Read more » |

The Philadelphia ElevenMonday, June 3, 2019In 1974 eleven women were ordained Episcopal priests against church rules. They sparked a movement. Tentatively titled, "The Philadelphia Eleven," a documentary film tells how the women hit a chord in a deeply divided world about who speaks the word of God. We Welcome The Rev. Nita Byrd as Hobart and William Smith's New ChaplainThursday, May 2, 2019The Rev. Nita Byrd will begin her tenure as Hobart and William Smith Colleges’ new Chaplain and Dean for Spiritual Engagement beginning May 16. Byrd joins the Colleges from Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, N.C. As chaplain there since 2012, she was responsible for campus religious life, from planning services to student programming to pastoral care. In addition to her duties as Religious Studies Program Director at St. Augustine’s, she served on the faculty and as a member of the president’s cabinet and the university’s advancement team.
