The Empathy Caravan

From August 2-9, Bishop Kara and others joined Rural and Migrant Ministry for a statewide caravan — Save New York’s Rural Economy: A Journey of Empathy — to foster an appreciation for immigrants, celebrate their humanity, and emphasize their enormous contributions to our economy. The goal is to change the narrative surrounding immigration and catch the attention of the wider community as well as policymakers.

The 1,000-mile journey went through more than 50 communities across New York State, from the South Fork of Long Island, through the Hudson Valley and the Capitol District, to the North Country, then along the Canadian Border, through Rochester, all the way to Buffalo. Along the way, they supported local businesses, lead vigils at predetermined locations, and held gatherings, music, and more.
