I’d like to welcome you to the first Arts@Ascension Festival happening this Spring at Church of the Ascension, Rochester, NY. The Arts festival this year will feature a great number of events, ranging from an orchestral concert, an organ recital by Prof. Nathan Laube of the Eastman School of Music, services for Easter and Ascension Day, an event in collaboration with the American Guild of Organists and more. In particular, I hope the below event will be of interest to all of you, initially.

Choir Returns Home

GENEVA, NY - St. Peter's  Community Arts Academy Senior (youth) Choir returned home from a 9 day trip performing in England, Wales and Scottland.  The 32 choristers, ages 13-18 were phenomenal in their performances, and the audiences were large, and quite taken with the excellence of the choir.  Long standing ovations in each of their performances.  The young people were outstanding ambassadors of our Diocese, and of American youth.

When one door closes, God opens another

Do you believe that when one door closes, God opens another?  On January 16, 2019 the Cen-cinai Bureau of the Costa Rican National Department of Health announced that they would not accept our offer to build a school in Cartagena.  There were less than five children left in the village that qualified for government assistance – the rest had left with their families in the caravans headed north towards the United States.  We were devastated – three years of hard work down the drain.

Harvest Kitchen, St. Luke's Brockport

St. Luke's in Brockport offers up many missions that support the community.  The congregation accommodates a Food Shelf and also the Brockport Clothing Center.  Every 2nd Sunday of the month, you can also join St. Luke's for a meal at their Harvest Kitchen.

Maurice Charles named dean of Rockefeller Memorial Chapel

The Rev. Dr. Maurice Charles has been named dean of Rockefeller Memorial Chapel at the University of Chicago, effective July 1. Charles has deep ties to UChicago, having earned his MDiv and PhD from the Divinity School. He was most recently the dean for spiritual engagement and chaplain at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York, having previously served as associate dean for religious life at Stanford University.

What a Celebration!!!

St. Luke’s and St. Simon Cyrene was full in the celebration of the Blessed Absalom Jones.

Blessed Absalom Jones was the first African American priest in the Episcopal Church (Ordained in 1804).  Our Diocese gathered this past Saturday to celebrate with a liturgy and eucharist and much singing!

Some brought a dish from thier cultural roots for the fellowship gathering that followed.

A presentation of “Bringing Harriet Tubman to life” by Maggie Moore-Holley, who did a wonderful job channeling Harriet Tubman!
