St. Paul\'s Adopt-a-Classroom tutoring program was the focus of WXXI\'s AM 1370 Connection/Education Friday segment for an hour on the 11th of November 2011. Host Frank Cegelski and program coordinator Patti Blaine talked about the effects of poverty on early childhood learning and the subsequent challenges the students face as they start Kindergarten at School #9 in the Rochester City School District.
Mr. Cegelski and Ms. Blaine also discussed the challenges the tutoring program must surmount to provide literacy intervention for the students it serves as they fielded comments from callers.
The Adopt-a-Classroom program serves 345 children in 17 classrooms at School #9. There are currently 58 dedicated volunteers participating in this ministry as Christ\'s body in our city. There is always room for more! If interested, please contact Patti Blaine at 585-354-1703 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. If you\'d like to listen to the interview, it is available in MP3 format at the web-address below.
