Episcopal Diocese of Rochester
Joy in Christ, a way of life

A Note from The Rev. Paul Frolick

"While it is hard to say goodbye to the great people of St. George’s, Hilton, who welcomed me as a newly ordained priest five years ago, and to the city and diocese of Rochester, where I have lived and worked since 1994, I am very excited with God's calling for ministry and mission with the people of St. Matthew’s, Liverpool. I’m also grateful to Bishop. Singh for all of his support over the last nine years, and for the opportunity to continue to lead the College for Congregational Development."

Dear Friends

Bill Jones and I are pleased to announce that The Rev. Paul Frolick has been called as the next Rector of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church.   Rev. Frolick will join St. Matthews on Apr16, 2018.  Until Rev. Frolick joins us, Rev. Jackie Schmitt will continue to be at St. Matthews as our Priest-in-Charge.

Paul is a lifelong Episcopalian and son of an Episcopal priest. He served as a musician in various churches starting in his late teens. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree and Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music in 2000, and served as the director of music and program assistant at Christ Episcopal Church, Pittsford, NY for fourteen years. As program assistant, he worked with the rector on stewardship, worship for families with special needs children, Christian education for all ages, and communications. During those years, he discerned a call to ordination. He earned a Master of Divinity at Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School in 2012 and was ordained to the priesthood that summer.  Paul will bring to St. Matthew’s the unique gift of his involvement in the College for Congregational Development which works with both lay, in particular, and ordained individuals in leadership development. Paul’s experience, knowledge and expertise in the development of lay leadership will be invaluable for the people of St. Matthew’s Church.

Since ordination in 2012, Paul has been the rector of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Hilton, New York which is a small village approximately 20 miles northwest of Rochester. During the five years Paul has been at St. George’s, pledging has doubled, Sunday School attendance has grown from 8 to 22 students and attendance has increased by 40%.

Paul enjoys cooking (and eating!) with friends, skiing, golf, being outside, reading, and playing the piano. He is the proud (and favorite) uncle of four nephews, ages 6-10, who live in Detroit and Indianapolis.

We believe Paul best fulfills the eight characteristics (page 7) of our profile.  The Search Committee and Vestry feel that Paul Is the best candidate to become the next Rector of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church.

In Peace,

Penny Dugas
