RGHS ID Badges - Reminder

This is the information about obtaining of newly issued Clergy ID badges for Rochester General Hospital. If you have not applied for one yet, this is for you.

May 7, 2009

Dear Colleagues in Ministry:

This letter is to inform you that effective immediately, there will be an annual fee of $10.00 imposed upon all newly issued Clergy ID badges. If you currently possess a Clergy ID badge for Rochester General Hospital (with the ViaHealth logo), you will be required to have your badge replaced with a new badge, including the $10 fee, by no later than September 1, 2009.

As you may know, the hospital has changed its corporate name from “ViaHealth” to “Rochester General Health System.” This new name also entails a new logo, and all ViaHealth ID badges must be replaced with new Rochester General badges. After September 1, 2009, the ViaHealth ID badge will no longer be accepted for complementary parking.

It has been our honor and privilege to be able to provide complementary parking privileges to our community clergy and pastoral visitors, but issues of security and accountability have required us to have a more effective process for keeping track of who has Clergy ID badges. Therefore, once you have paid for and received your new Rochester General Hospital ID badge, it will be valid for one year from the date you purchase it. You will be given a paper pass, along with your plastic picture ID badge, which will note the date your badge will expire.

When exiting the Portland Avenue Garage, you must present BOTH your ID badge AND the paper card displaying the expiration date. Failure to present BOTH cards will result in having to pay the full amount of the parking fee that is due for that particular visit. Your badge will not be effective in the Carter Street Garage, as this is a fully automated garage, so there are no parking attendants to read your card and badge.

Please know that we greatly appreciate the time and support you offer your parishioners/congregants/members while they are in the hospital, and we do want to make it as easy as possible for you to meet their spiritual needs.

If you already have a ViaHealth ID badge, simply go the Safety and Security office in the Carter Street Garage in order to get your new Rochester General badge and one-year pass. The annual $10 fee will be collected at the Safety and Security office. Then, once a year, you will need to go to the Safety and Security office to renew your badge and receive another one-year pass. Without a valid one-year pass AND a valid Rochester General ID badge, you will be required to pay the full appropriate parking fee for your visit.

If you already have a clergy ID with the new Rochester General logo (three overlapping squares of green, blue, and orange), then you will need to go to the Safety and Security office to remit the $10 fee and receive a one-year pass by no later than September 1, 2009. Again, after September 1, 2009, you must present BOTH the one-year pass AND your RGH ID badge in order to avoid further parking charges.

If you do not have a Clergy ID badge for Rochester General Hospital, to make an initial application for one, first come to the Spiritual Care office, on the first floor of the hospital, near the Red Elevators, to fill out an application. You will then be sent to our Safety and Security office to purchase and receive your badge and pass. Non-ordained pastoral visitors will require signed authorization from their senior ordained clergyperson in order to be eligible for an ID badge.

Again, it is an honor and a privilege to work alongside you in ministering to the spiritual needs of our patients here at Rochester General Hospital. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this process. We look forward to our continuing partnership in serving your members.

In peace and grace,

The Rev. Christine L. Baker, Director

Spiritual Care Department
