Gay Bishop Gene Robinson To Speak In Rochester On April 29th
The Rev. Michael W. Hopkins
The Rt. Rev. V. Gene Robinson—the first 'honestly gay' bishop in The Episcopal Church—will appear in Rochester on April 29, 2010, at 7:00 PM.
Bishop Robinson will preach during an Evensong service at St. Luke & St. Simon Cyrene Episcopal Church, 17 S. Fitzhugh Street. Bishop Prince Singh of the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester will also participate. Afterwards, Bishop Robinson will speak further and answer questions from the congregation. Members of the public are cordially invited to attend.
'It\'s a great honor to have Bishop Robinson visit the Diocese of Rochester,' said the Rev. Michael W. Hopkins, rector of the parish hosting the event. 'Gene\'s election and consecration as the Bishop of New Hampshire in 2003 put The Episcopal Church on an unstoppable path toward welcome and affirmation of all people—including those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender.'
Bishop Robinson has been interviewed by secular media icons such as Jon Stewart and Rachel Maddow. He was a candidate for bishop in Rochester in 1999.
