Bishop Singh to take summer sabbatical
ROCHESTER - The Rt. Rev. Prince G. Singh, Eighth Episcopal Bishop of Rochester, will take a three-month sabbatical this summer. Beginning in mid-June and ending in mid-September, the sabbatical is offered to all bishops in the Church upon completing their fifth year of service to a diocese. Bishop Singh will use this time to deepen his relationship with Christ and to participate in missional opportunities.
“Thank you for this gift of a sabbatical. As a parish priest, I was about to take my sabbatical when I accepted God’s call as your bishop, and so I had put that plan on hold five years ago. The Church, in her wisdom, has placed this practice of a sabbatical as an expectation of its clergy leaders to make sure they grow in health,” Bishop Singh said. “This vocation of serving as your chief servant and pastor has had its challenges and I look forward to a time of reflection, prayer, study and missional engagement. I will hold you in my prayers and invite you to hold me in yours.”
Bishop Singh is currently working with his staff to prepare them and the Diocese for his sabbatical. Members of the Bishop’s staff will continue to be available for meetings and inquiries during the Bishop’s sabbatical.
